Krazy Kustom Khemo! DOT-4

Once again for those of you who are just joining us, Day Of Transplant = DOT

Dot- 4 means 4 days to go.
Houston, do we have ignition?

A brief excursion to the brink, and how to know where the brink is.

pharmacodynamic tolerance

My Dacogen dose at the Raab clinic was determined by a height/weight body mass formula, and that is how this initial dose of this chemo was set.

The chemo I am getting is Fludarabine Phosphate and the uptake and efficacy is being monitored every four hours by testing blood samples for absorption. This dictates the dosage and strength for the next day's bag.

It is like knowing your limits, and one more beer isn't going to make you feel any better, despite the urgings of your limbic system.

The other obvious factors that determine the brink are blood levels, electrolytes, digestion and elimination ok,, mouth sores, infections fungal and bacterial, and general state of malaise.

Myelotoxicity

Myelotoxicity is the most common complication of cancer chemotherapy.
It can damage the bone marrow.

Well how about that. Just what we need to nail those  pesky mutant cells that are cranking out defective products.  The goal is to wipe out my the stem cells in my Marrow.

Bring it on! Chemo is my friend.

I can ride it out.

Most Cases of MDS are  not  de novo  like mine , but arise from chemo  treatment for other cancers. See my post of  what causes MDS , and my rant on socio-environmentally  induced low dose de novo here.

Oh, there was this interesting bit from the interwebs.

Mithridatism is the practice of protecting oneself against a poison by gradually self-administering non-lethal amounts. The word derives from Mithridates VI, the King of Pontus, who so feared being poisoned that he regularly ingested small doses, aiming to develop immunity.

Like I was unknowingly doing with boatyard toxins. It doesn't work. WEAR YOUR MASK AND GLOVES!

More tomorrow,

Chris
