This is the first in a series about our Immune System, Organ transplant, Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplants, and Graft Versus Host Disease. Heavy subject matter, so I thought we should start light with some bootleg 'toons.

                                                                               rejects it

                                                         and challenges it to a duel !

This rejection can be violent.

  Immunosupressive drugs must be administered so the donor's  organ has a chance to survive in you, the host's body.

Success rates and post transplant longevity are always improving with the advent of better drugs and techniques. That is the Reader's Digest version.  

In the days to come we will look at the difference between a standard organ transplant, and a Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant.
